| Table Captains | Sustaining Circle |
As we mark the 10th anniversary of this extraordinary philanthropic celebration, the YWCA has expanded our “circle”, welcoming men as Table Captains and as guests. Men are invaluable partners in the YWCA’s work to create a safe world for women and girls. This greater inclusiveness is more aptly described in our new name “Open Circle – Empowering Women and Girls”.
Helping to make our 2009 celebration all the more special, we will be joined by keynote speaker, Bonnie St. John. A survivor of childhood abuse and a partial-leg amputee at the tender age of 5, Bonnie went on to become the first African-American to win Olympic medals in ski racing. Bonnie is a Harvard University graduate, Rhodes Scholar, former White House National Economic Council director, national speaker, TV personality, and author.
Bonnie’s story is one of resiliency – a trait applauded by the YWCA and nurtured in those who turn to us often at the darkest moments of their lives. Her fifth book, "Live Your Joy" is slated for release in April 2009.
We offer our deep appreciation to Huntington, our 2009 Title Sponsor, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Open Circle’s Premier Sponsor.
The YWCA is eager to include our friends in our 2009 celebration, as Table Captains, Sustaining Circle Members, or as guests.
