The YWCA West Central Michigan hosts a number of special events each year to highlight our mission, honor the extraordinary efforts of women within our community, and educate our community on the critical issues affecting women and families today. The YWCA is also the grateful beneficiary of several community fundraisers. The revenue and awareness provided through all these events directly supports the work of the YWCA and most importantly those we serve.

04/16/2010: Deadline To Sign Up As A Participating Site for Your Own Stand Against Racism

Here's your chance to take a "Stand Against Racism".

On Friday, April 30, 2010, over 60 YWCAs throughout the country will be working with approximately 1,500 organizations that will cumulatively attract about 200,000 individuals.

The YWCA is calling on organizations, corporations, schools, hospitals, houses of worship, and government agencies in the Grand Rapids area to become "Participating Sites" of this exciting effort. Our goal is to raise awareness that racism still exists in our community and that it can no longer be ignored or tolerated.

As a Participating Site of the YWCA's Stand Against Racism, we ask that you organize and host a "Stand" – either open to the public or just for your group. Being a Participating Site is as easy as 1, 2, 3...

  1. Sign up online by going to www.StandAgainstRacism.org and click on "Become a Participating Site". The deadline to register is April 16, 2010. The YWCA West Central Michigan will be notified automatically and the YWCA-USA will provide you with a free toolkit of the materials you will need, including templates on how to run your event, ideas and options to design your own Stand, and bookmarks and stickers or buttons. There will be an option to purchase additional items such as T-shirts, but these are not necessary for a successful event.
  2. Review these handouts for planning and ideas.
  3. Get started making a difference!
